According to a post by Elon Musk, new users who sign up for the X (formerly Twitter) will be required to pay a small annual fee to access features including posting, liking, and replying.

According to Elon Musk’s reply to XNewsDaily, the small fee is to enable the platform to curb the “relentless onslaught of bots“.

Users who want to post, reply, bookmark, and like other posts on the platform will be required to pay the fee.

The fee policy was reportedly tested New Zealand and the Philippines

The X platform has been plagued by bots which tend to post spam replies to other issues

Speculation is that the fee could be used to help the X platform stay afloat with revenue. Fidelity currently estimates the value of X at about $12.5bn.

Elon Musk purchased the platform for $44 billion in 2022.
