The Ghana Cybersecurity Authority (GCA) has issued a press release in which it listed several lending apps as being “predatory” and non-compliant with the Bank of Ghana rules.
Details
In its press release, the GCA stated that some of the apps listed automatically debit users’ wallets without authorization and charge high interest rates on loans disbursed.
The release stated that some of the apps resort to “cyberbullying” and threats of intimidation for late or refusal of loan repayments.

Digging Deeper
Most of the lending apps included are “clones” or scams of official apps from banks and startups like Bezo Money. The fraudsters use official logos of companies and brands to scam online users.
The release stated that the apps listed are not registered with the Bank of Ghana and are also in non-compliance with the Ghana Data Protection Authority.
The Authority has cautioned the general public against usage of the apps
