The Director General of Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA), Dr. Joe Anokye, announced he will proceed on terminal leave starting Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The move comes as part of the transition from the Akufo-Addo administration to the incoming John Mahama administration.

In a letter dated January 6, 2025, and addressed to 13 industry CEOs, Dr. Anokye wrote:
“Since 2017, I have been privileged to work with you as the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA). During this time, the communications industry has undergone a number of changes and faced significant challenges which our collective hard work has surmounted.”
He added:
“As you are also aware, the Government is transitioning, and with that, it is time for me to bow out as the Director General of the NCA. I trust you will accord my Deputy Directors General the same level of cooperation.”

The letter was addressed to key industry leaders, including:
- CEOs of Telecel Ghana, Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), and AT Ghana.
- Heads of infrastructure providers like Helios Towers and African Towers Limited.
- Representatives from submarine cable operators SAT3, WACS, and ACE.
What’s next
Dr. Anokye will hand over responsibilities to his two Deputy Directors General while the new administration appoints a successor.
