The future of healthcare innovation in Ghana just took a major leap forward with the conclusion of HealthHack, the inaugural edition of the Hack54 Hackathon Series.
Organized by thedsgnjunkies (The Design Junkies) and Socialite AF Ltd, the four-day event brought together young innovators from leading universities to design solutions tackling Ghana’s toughest healthcare challenges.
Why It Matters
Ghana’s healthcare system faces chronic issues—from access to medicine and patient safety to disease prediction and clinical efficiency. Hack54’s mission: bring design, data, and community together to reimagine how healthcare can work for everyone.
The Details
Held under the theme “The Intersection of Design, Data, and Community in Ghana’s Healthcare Future,” the hackathon united students from Ashesi University, KNUST, University of Ghana, and UMaT.

Teams developed human-centered, tech-driven MVPs evaluated by a panel of healthcare professionals, data scientists, and UX experts.
“These young innovators aren’t just building apps—they’re building the future,” said Klenam Fiadzoe of the Alliance for HealthTech Africa. “They’re combining empathy, data, and design to solve challenges that will impact millions of Ghanaians.”
The Winners
Three standout teams earned top honors for their groundbreaking healthcare solutions:
- Overall Winner (Best UX Solution & People’s Choice): NovaHQ

What’s Next
Hack54 organizers announced an incubation program for the top three teams, providing mentorship, technical support, and access to strategic networks. Winners will also pitch at major innovation platforms such as Tech in Ghana and FiDCon.
“Hack54 has proven that when young minds are given the right space and support, they can design transformative solutions,” said Samuel Allotey, Co-founder of thedsgnjunkies.
The Road Ahead
Hack54 cements Ghana’s reputation as a rising hub for digital innovation in Africa. Organizers revealed the next hackathon in the series will focus on finance and digital assets, slated for February 2026.
