The issuance of Ghana Card identification numbers to newborn babies in Ghana will start taking place next month.
This announcement was made by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia over the weekend.

The announcement was made by the Vice President who stated that the integration of the databases of the Births and Deaths Registry, National Identification Authority, and Ghana Health Service has been completed.
The first issuance of a Ghana Card number had been issued on Friday, July 21, 2023 after a successful test run of the system.

“So from next month, all babies born in Ghana, once they take them to Weigh In, they will be issued the Ghana Card number and also get their Birth Certificate Identification number at the same time, because the two databases are talking to each other.” said Dr Bawumia noted while delivering a speech in Cape Coast over the weekend.

Officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) say cards bearing the biometrics and other data will be issued to the children when they are older, after their digits and other features are fully formed.
