There’s been a lot of discussion between Ghanaians about using Starlink, especially after the internet outage that occurred on March 14th.
The Minister of Communications stated that they are currently in the process of licensing the internet satellite company to work in Ghana.
Here are some facts and info about Starlink and the fees associated with it.
Starlink Licensing
Starlink hasn’t yet been licensed by Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA). There is a roadmap that Starlink service will be licensed and operational for use in Ghana by Q3 (July – September) 2024.
Fees and Costs
Currently, a Standard Starlink device kit costs $599 (without shipping). A high-performance kit (for business owners) costs $2500. The Starlink kit includes the dish, the router and cables associated with power and connections.
In local currency, $599 = ~GHC 7450 and $2500 = ~ GHC 31,250.

Monthly Charges
For residential users, you would pay $120 every month to access the Starlink internet service. Users get access to unlimited high-speed internet (150 Mbps and up. No Data Cap)
Total cost: $120 = ~1,500 GHC/month.

In all, a regular user of Starlink in Ghana would have to budget ~9000 GHC for the first-month of usage of the Starlink service and subsequently ~1500 GHC every month.
