Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has released a standalone iOS app for Grok, its AI-powered chatbot, making it available beyond the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The app is live in several countries, including the U.S., Australia, and India.
Why it matters
Previously limited to X users, Grok’s expansion signals xAI’s ambitions to broaden access to its generative AI tool, competing directly with the likes of ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
Features
- Real-time access to the web and X: Grok integrates live data for up-to-date answers and context.
- Generative AI capabilities: Users can rewrite text, summarize long content, generate Q&A responses, and create images from text prompts.
- Photo analysis: Users can upload pictures for insights, adding a layer of interactivity to the chatbot.
What they’re saying
“Grok is an AI-powered assistant designed to be maximally truthful, useful, and curious. Get answers to any question, generate striking images, and upload pictures to gain a deeper understanding of your world,” reads the app listing.
Expansion plans
xAI is preparing a dedicated website, Grok.com, to make the chatbot accessible on the web. Currently, the site shows a “coming soon” message for users logging in with an xAI account.
