Ghana Digital Products Awards Launches at GDIW, Spotlighting People, Process & Standards

3 Min Read

The Ghana Digital Products Awards (GDPA), a new initiative designed to recognise the country’s most innovative digital products and the people who build them, has officially been launched.

The launch took place on November 13 during this year’s Ghana Digital Innovation Week, under the theme “Building Digital Products in Ghana: People, Process & Standards.”

Driving the news

  • The event drew tech hubs, EdTech organisations, innovators, judges, advisors, and industry leaders for what organizers described as a major step toward formalising standards in product development.
  • Poga Kuofie, President of the Awards and Founding Partner of Insights Lab, underscored the focus on people and process: “Great products are built through great people, guided by strong processes, and measured by clear standards,” he said.
  • Kuofie added that every digital solution — from tools that help small businesses operate to platforms expanding access to health or education — contributes directly to national progress.

Why it matters

The GDPA aims to fill a long-standing gap in Ghana’s tech ecosystem — celebrating not only polished digital products but also the talent, discipline, and frameworks that make them possible.

The bigger picture

Kuofie said the Awards build on Insights Lab’s earlier ecosystem-support initiatives:

  • Building Bytes — a storytelling platform showcasing local product creators.
  • Demo Fridays — a stage for innovators to present emerging solutions.

“If Building Bytes tells the stories, and Demo Fridays creates the stage, GDPA sets the standard,” he said.

Voices from the ecosystem

  • Yaw Adu Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Hubs Network, urged GDPA to scale nationwide, stressing the need for inclusive regional participation.
  • Kwame Nyatuame, President of the Ghana EdTech Alliance, linked the Awards’ theme to the importance of strengthening Ghana’s digital talent pipeline through education.

What’s next

The launch also recognised the advisors, judges, organizers, and volunteers shaping the Awards’ foundation. GDPA is expected to become an annual celebration that:

  • elevates Ghana’s digital innovation,
  • promotes shared processes and standards,
  • encourages collaboration across the ecosystem, and
  • inspires the next generation of product creators.
