DVLA To Automate Its Systems…..Again?

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 2 Min Read

It’s one of those things which you can reading about and you could have sworn that you already read this story before.

Maybe you’ve seen this story before….

Authorities at the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) are about to introduce an automated system to cut off the activities carried out by middle men (also known as “goro boys”)

The DVLA says the system will reduce human-to-human interaction in the discharge of its various services.

The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Kwasi Agyemang Busia, who spoke to the media, said the automated systems will also ensure genuine documentation of vehicles and other services undertaken by the DVLA.

In the next few weeks you will begin to see the steps that we have taken in trying to reduce the human-to-human interaction and have computerisation take place,” he said.

That seems like a good initiative right?

Wait, Haven’t We Seen This Before?

Well, you have to take what the CEO said with a grain of salt. In a story posted in 2014 on the Graphic website, the CEO of the DVLA at the time, Mr Rudolp Beckly, also made similar statements about automating DVLA services to cut down on middle men.

We’re in 2017. If the former CEO said the DVLA was implementing an automated system back then, why is the new CEO saying they are carrying out another initiative of automation?

An automation of the DVLA would go a long way to cutting down the long queues and times for processing of driver’s licenses. But if they DVLA couldn’t executive an automated system back then, can they actually succeed now?

We’ll have to wait and see what this system looks like when they finally roll it out to the public.
