The Ghana government passed a bill which will impose a levy on industrial and vehicle emissions in the country

The emissions levy bill aims to promote the use of eco-friendly technologies by manufacturers, oil and gas firms, and other players. The bill is also intended to curb the impact of pollution and increase clean energy usage.

How It Works

The bill will impose a levy on the following vehicles

  • Motorcycle and Tricyle – Users of these vehicles will pay 75 GHC per annum
  • Motorcycles, buses, coaches and vehicles up to 3000cc – Users of these vehicles will pay 150 GHC per annum
  • Motorcycles, Buses, and Vehicles above 3000cc and Cargo and articulator trucks – Users of these vehicles will pay 300 GHC per annum
  • Cargo trucks and articulated trucks – GHC 300 per annum

According to the government, the emissions levy will generate about GHC 450 million annually,
