Ghana’s FDA Declares Sales and Advertisement Of Vapes In Ghana Illegal

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has noted put out a press release stating that the sale of electronic cigarettes in Ghana is illegal.

Driving The News

In the press release, the FDA states that the sale, advertisement, and recreational use of electronic nicotine delivery systems such as Vapes and other non-nicotine tobacco products by the public can be registered as a prescription-only medicine for the purposes of cessation therapy.

The FDA states that both the sale and advertising of vapes are in violation of Ghana’s Public Health Act and the Tobacco Control Regulations.

The Bigger Picture

The FDA has sent notice to manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers to pull down all advertisements on social media, billboards, and neon signs with immediate effect and refrain from the importation of the products.

The Authority states that there will be repercussions including sanctions for failure to adhere.
