Girl Power: Jill Of All Trades Celebrates Young Women Making Changes

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 3 Min Read

It’s always nice to see documentaries of people creating their own lanes in society. Sometimes it feels like some of these people are never really given a spotlight or due credit for their accomplishments.

But that’s where Jill Of All Trades comes in. Jill of All Trades is a documentary/interview series which celebrates young generational women making changes.

The concept comes from the mind of Ama Asantewa Diaka, who is famously known as Poetra in Ghana. Poetra is a writer/spoken word artist/entrepreneur. Her spoken word is featured on her YouTube Page and blog site.

Ama Asantewa Diaka (Poetra), creator of Jill Of All Trades

Her creation, Jill Of All Trades, delves into the lives of young women, to find out how they are living their truth and their everyday challenges, in hopes that it serves as inspiration to others.

Every year, there are scores of people and organizations that set up events and programs to celebrate women, and rightly so, because women are the gift that keep giving. But more often than not, the only women that are mainly seen being celebrated are women from the older generation. Nobody is telling the stories of younger women; nobody is showing how these women rose steadily from their teens, through to their twenties and thirties to get to where there are now. It is for this purpose that Jill Of All Trades was created to recognize and celebrate the young women who are making a conscientious effort to be the change they wish to see.”  –  Ama Asantewa Diaka

It’s an interesting initiative and it’s great to see someone try to highlight the hidden young female heroes in the society.

One day, maybe Tech Nova will launch it’s own initiative and highlight some tech heroes. Seems like a good idea, right?
