This September, a decade of dedicated work in the startup ecosystem is coming to a head in a way I could have never imagined. A few years ago, I co-led Google’s program for founders from underrepresented backgrounds and geographies, an experience that challenged and enriched me in ways.
Namely, in that role, I got a firsthand glimpse of the incredible ingenuity and resilience of founders from underrepresented communities. Now, I’m thrilled that I’ll be channeling that same passion as a cohost for the 12th Angel Fair Africa in New York City on September 19, 2025.
It feels like a full-circle moment, moving from building programs for founders at Google as Head of Startup Ecosystems to helping shine a global spotlight on the dynamic startup ecosystem in Africa within those same four walls.
This event, taking place at the Google NYC office, isn’t just another networking event; it’s a vital platform for top African founders to connect with the U.S. investor ecosystem. It’s about more than just listening to pitches—it’s about bringing together the builders and the investors who are actively driving Africa’s future.
Moreover, what makes this event especially exciting is the opportunity to bring together three organizations that are near and dear to my heart: Five Two Five, BAG Collective, and XA Network Africa. Each of these organizations works tirelessly to remove the barriers that prevent incredible founders from accessing the capital and expertise they need.
Five Two Five is built on the belief that innovation isn’t confined to a single geographic hub, and we are working to tear down the biases of proximity in venture capital. Our core investment thesis centers around early-stage technologies that support the movement of people, goods, and money across communities and borders – in Africa, this includes portfolio companies like Crop2Cash, BuuPass, and Rivy.
The BAG Collective and XA Network Africa are two global powerhouses of tech operators, redefining what it means to be an angel investor by providing intellectual, social, and financial capital – and, both organizations are committed to the mission of connecting experienced tech operators with brilliant African founders.
I’ve always believed that the most impactful work happens when we go beyond simply supporting an idea and become an accomplice in its success. Angel Fair Africa embodies that spirit. It’s a place where visionary entrepreneurs, seasoned investors, and inspiring leaders will come together to share their blueprints for building companies, funds, and accelerators.
This is a chance to move past conversations and into action, to see the next generation of African entrepreneurs, and to be a partner in a story that’s still being written. I can’t wait to be a part of bringing this event to the U.S. and to welcome all of you, including these entrepreneurs who will be pitching, in being a part of this incredible journey.
