PUBG MOBILE is making a major push across Africa, rolling out local servers, cultural in-game features, and continent-wide initiatives under the banner “For Africa, By Africa.”
It’s a strategy rooted in localization and player feedback—aimed at elevating the mobile gaming experience for millions of African players.
By the numbers:
- New servers in Nigeria and South Africa
- Mapangale dance emote debuts in-game
- Maasai-inspired outfit now available
- Weekly giveaways with Infinix and Oraimo prizes
- Africa Cup finals slated for Sept. 6–7
Driving the news
On July 14, PUBG MOBILE launched a wave of Africa-focused upgrades, including:
- Local servers in Nigeria and South Africa to dramatically reduce latency.
- A Server Node Selection feature, letting players toggle between African and global matchmaking for smoother, faster gameplay.
- Cultural additions like the Maasai Shuka outfit and Mapangale emote, inspired by viral African dance trends.
- A digital version of Mancala, the iconic African strategy board game.
“You deserve millisecond-precise responsiveness,” said Brian Gu, head of PUBG MOBILE Africa. “These updates are built with and for African gamers.”

Yes, but: Despite growing infrastructure, mobile connectivity and device affordability still vary across regions. PUBG’s long-term success may hinge on access, not just localization.
