Spotify is launching a Music Pro tier later this year, offering higher-quality audio and remixing tools, per Bloomberg.
The add-on will reportedly cost $6 per month on top of the $12 Premium subscription but will have region-specific pricing, with lower costs in less-developed markets.
Why it matters
Spotify has teased high-fidelity (HiFi) streaming since 2017, and many subscribers have been waiting years for it to materialize.
The company confirmed in 2021 that it was working on lossless audio but has yet to roll it out.
State of play
- In 2024, Bloomberg reported that HiFi streaming would launch as a $5 add-on before year-end.
- The latest update suggests pricing and availability could shift, as Spotify has not yet secured rights from all major music labels.
- Spotify recently announced multi-year agreements with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, signaling progress.
Beyond HiFi
The Music Pro tier will reportedly include:
- Generative AI-powered remix tools for mixing songs from different artists.
- Concert perks, such as presale access and potentially better seats.
- A phased rollout, with features being tested over the coming months.
