Tyrese Haspil, a 25-year-old who was the former assistant of entrepreneur Fahim Salen, was found guilty in a murder trial in a Manhattan Criminal Court this week.
Details
Tyrese Haspil was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing and dismembering his former boss, tech entrepreneur Fahim Saleh, in 2020.
During the trial, it was narrated that Haspil stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Saleh’s companies and murdered him to conceal the crime.
Haspil worked for Fahim Saleh in 2018 as his assistant and began stealing money from his companies to purchase lavish gifts for his new girlfriend.
In May 2019, fearing he would be discovered, Haspil resigned from his position but continued to steal money in increasingly large amounts even after his departure. Haspil’s scheme was detected by Saleh who confronted him over a $35,000 debt.
Prosecutors in the case said Haspil offered to settle it with a two-year repayment plan, instead of bringing criminal charges against him. The prosecution stated that Haspil began plotting to kill Saleh to prevent him from testifying against him in any criminal proceedings.
About Fahim Saleh
Fahim Saleh, remembered as an innovative businessman, founded successful motorcycle ride-sharing companies including Gokada in Nigeria.
What Happens Next
Haspil is expected to be sentenced on September 10.
