In 2022, we published a piece that Uber might be launching its Uber Eats feature in Ghana. Uber officially commented that they did not have plans to launch in Ghana at that moment.

The Uber Eats feature has appeared in the Uber app again, signaling that Uber might be preparing to launch the feature. But it also could be a “bug”.

Currently, the Uber app has a new service in its features section called “Food”. Selecting the service shows off the “Uber Eats” logo and displays a “Coming Soon” illustration.

False Flag?

Uber could simply be internal testing and the feature itself will not launch in Ghana. Uber’s communication team had already communicated in our earlier article that they did not have plans to launch the feature in other countries in Africa aside from Kenya and South Africa.

Zoom Out

Ghana’s food delivery ecosystem was surprised that Glovo, one of the major players in Ghana, announced that it was leaving the market on May 10th citing issues with profitability.

Uber Eats launching after Glovo’s exit might be beneficial for the ecosystem as a whole. Currently, Uber Eats is available in South Africa and Kenya.
