This would come off as a surprise…
Vodafone, Ghana’s second largest mobile network operator is apparently seeking a partnership with 4G LTE provider Surfline Communications according to some media reports.
Apparently, Vodafone is said to be seeking to use Surfline’s existing LTE network infrastructure to offer 4G services to its Vodafone customers.
How exactly the deal/partnership would work is not exactly clear, especially since Vodafone does not have a license for 4G. Another question is if the National Communications Authority (NCA) will give this partnership the green light. At the moment, Surfline operates in Accra and Tema and most recently Takoradi.
The NCA has been aware of this potential partnership but hasn’t yet given it the full green light because of the Tigo-Airtel merger it has been finalizing in the recent months.
If Vodafone does strike a partnership with Surfline, it should be interesting to see how it plays out in the near future.
