MTN Nigeria has today officially turned on its 5G mobile internet services at 190 sites across the country.

The country’s National Communication Commission (NCC) had previously set Wednesday 24 August as the date for the rollout of 5G after nearly 3 years of preparation from the Federal Government.

Nigeria is now the 3rd African country alongside South Africa and Kenya to launch 5G services. MTN Ghana paused its 5G pilot till next year.

MTN Nigeria was awarded its 5G license last year in December 2021. The company is expected to increase the rollout of 5G sites exponentially in October to 500 – 600 more sites.

Nigerian users with 5G enabled smartphones will be able to take advantage as 5G sites go live today.
