Kenya Looking To Set Up Regulatory Sandbox For Emerging Technology

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) announced that it’s inviting comments from the public as it plans to introduce a framework for a regulatory sandbox.

According to the authority, the sandbox is intended to allow Fintechs and other innovators to conduct live experiments in a controlled environment under a regulator’s supervision.

Kenya’s Communications Authority is the regulatory authority for the ICT industry in Kenya, with responsibilities in telecommunications, cyber security, e-commerce, broadcasting, and postal/courier services.

The Authority is currently seeking input from industry stakeholders to help put together its framework.

Participants admitted into the regulatory sandbox can test their innovations for a maximum of 12 months.

Last week, Nigeria announced its own regulator sandbox and Ghana is currently accepting applications for its sandbox.
