World Press Freedom Index (Africa) – 2024

Mauritania moves up to 1st in the African region and 33rd in the world. Ghana moves from 62nd to 50th

Reporters Without Borders annually puts out its World Press Freedom Index which scores countries on their level of freedom when it comes to press and media.

In 2024, Mauritania was the 1st place-ranked country in the African region. The country rose 53 places from 2023 to a global ranking of 33rd. Namibia was ranked 2nd with a global ranking of 34th.
