Is Ghana’s 5G Launch Behind Schedule?

The 5G network would be deployed by Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC).

On June 24th, in a press conference, Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation stated that the country would launch its shared 5G network by September 2024.

But as of this publication, the 5G network is yet to launch.

Details

The Government had announced that it was partnering with industry players such as Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, AT Ghana, and Telecel Ghana to roll out 5G services on a shared platform.

MTN was confirmed by the Minister of Communications to have taken part in the discussions.

The network would be deployed by Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC).

Notably, MTN was ready to launch its 5G pilot in 2022 but canceled its plans for unknown reasons.

What Happens Next

There haven’t been any updates from the Ministry of Communication but NGIC had initially stated that they expect to launch its 5G platform before the end of 2024.
