WhatsApp Limits Forwarding Of Messages To Just Five Users

By Joseph-Albert Kuuire 1 Min Read

Not a fan of all those forwarded messages in your Whatsapp chats? Well, good news. Whatsapp will now limit users to forwarding a message only five times. This is to help cut down on the spread of misinformation or fake news.

Whatsapp has become a medium in which fake news stories are being spread in many countries including Brazil and parts of Africa. A new famous case involved Brazil’s presidential elections in which fake news was spread about voting information and untrue stories about the presidential candidates.

WhatsApp initially limited messages to being forwarded 20 times in July before testing the five time forwarding limit in India.

Before the idea was implemented, a Whatsapp user could forward a message to up to 256 people.

Whether this feature will help cut down on the spread of fake news and information remains to be seen.
