The next edition of Tech in Ghana is scheduled to take place in Kumasi on 4th and 5th December. This year will be the 16th edition of the conference and the first time it will be held in Kumasi.
The theme of this year’s event is “Royal Edition: Where Tradition Meets Innovation” — emphasising how traditional industries (manufacturing, agriculture, education) are being transformed via technology.
Today, we’re spotlighting DAVID HUTCHFUL, Co-founder of Yemaachi Biotech
Profile
David Hutchful is a Ghanaian technologist, entrepreneur, software developer, and user experience researcher based in Accra, Ghana.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Philosophy from Calvin College (USA) and a Master’s degree in Information, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), from the University of Michigan (USA).
He led pioneering mobile health (mHealth) initiatives, including the Mobile Technology for Community Health (MOTECH) platform — a collaboration with the Ghana Health Service.
MOTECH provided maternal and child health information via mobile messaging (Mobile Midwife) and tools for community health workers to manage client data, improving healthcare delivery in rural areas.
Currently, he is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Yemaachi Biotechnology (also known as Yemaachi Biotech), a Y Combinator-backed (YC W21) company based in Accra.
Yemaachi focuses on precision oncology for Africa, using multi-omics, machine learning, and AI-driven approaches to discover cancer diagnostics and treatments tailored to African populations (addressing underrepresented genomic data in global research).
