On Friday 14th December till 15th December, re:publica held it’s first event in the African region and it chose Accra, Ghana as it’s first stop.
Both days were packed with sessions, panels, and workshops which all discussed technology and how it affects different areas including politics, agriculture, feminism, journalism
The first day was the officially opening which feature remarks by the founders of re:publica, Will Senyo from Impact Hub Accra and the German ambassador to Ghana.
The first day’s events featured talks on social activism, politics and open transparency, open source healthcare and many other topics including one on what “Technology Can’t Fix” in Africa. (Official re:
The second feature more keynotes, panel discussions and talks on topics including feminism, inclusion, art, media and podcasting
Overall, the event was pretty much successful with informative topics, side activities, and lots of entertainment including musical performances by the popular musical artist M.anifest.
The event made great use of the Ghana Trade Fair Pavilion space as it accommodated all the stands, food vendors, and spaces for rest and relaxation.
It was a great combination of all things technology and art. We’ll be looking forward to the next one if it comes back to Accra next year.
